Gs E&C Inks Deal To Build Ittc In Singapore By 2024

GS Engineering & Construction has landed a deal with the Singapore government to build an Integrated Train Testing Centre (ITTC), a deal worth 550 billion won ($449 million).

According to the company, the agreement was made with Singapore’s Land Transport Authority to construct the ITTC in the city-state, Monday, which is scheduled to be finished by 2024.

GS, in cooperation with Korea’s state-run Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI), will design the integrated train testing center, but the institute has no stake in the project, the company said.

The KRRI has been in charge of managing and operating the train test center in Osong and the entity has provided consultations for GS E&C including planning ways to maximize operational efficiency using the space allocated by the Singaporean government, the company said.

GS E&C has been acknowledged for its superior technical abilities and experience from constructing the country’s first integrated test center in Osong, North Chungcheong Province, which can accommodate bullet trains with speeds of up to 250 kilometers an hour, while providing diverse means to test the tracks, roadbeds, signals, and communication.

GS believes the recent deal could open up a new chapter in public-private cooperation and become the role model case while bringing in hopes of recovery for the industry as the deal was sealed during the global pandemic.

With the latest bid, GS has secured a total of nine projects since 2009 from Singapore’s government worth 4.3 trillion won ($3.5 billion).

GS Construction has first obtained an order from Singapore to build the downtown subway line 2 and on the back of that has obtained six additional subway construction contracts, two depots, and the construction of an underpass.

The building-style depot built by the company in 2016 is the largest in the world and the project cost 2 trillion won.”The contract comes after the successful construction of the Osong train test center last year as well as the numerous successful projects in Singapore that proved our technical skills,” said Lee Sang-ki, head of GS E&C’s infrastructure department. “This is a great opportunity to show our knowledge and skills developed when constructing the Osong train test center to Singapore, and a chance to show to the world the technical competitiveness we have accumulated over our 100 years in the railroad sector.”
